A Game of Inches
Deut. 6:7-8
…6 These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
I remember learning a valuable lesson playing football as a kid. Our team could march down the field covering the entire length of the field, stopping on the 1 yard line. But if we stopped on the 1 yard line, our journey of 99 yards didn’t matter. Ultimately it came down to that final yard. 1 yard determined success or defeat. Taking that thought further – it really came down to that final inch. If we did not span that last inch and cross the plane of the endzone, we didn’t get any points, our efforts were fruitless. This is where football became known as a “Game of inches.” The biggest plays and the longest drives are made one inch at a time.
This is the same in life. Small habits make huge differences in our lives. Take golf for example. Slight adjustments that are made at the point of impact equal to yards and yards of difference at the end of the drive or swing. Little changes can equal big results.
I encourage you to develop small habits that will bring huge results in your life. The best habits you can develop are daily reading God’s word and daily prayer. Don’t take these habits for granted. They will yield great results!
Prayers/Thoughts for today:
- What habits do I need to develop to bring me huge positive results?
- What habits am I doing now that are yielding huge negative results?
